Breast cancer is a major rising concern across the globe. It has become the most common cancer in women in the USA. It makes up roughly 1 in 3) of all newly diagnosed cancers in women each year. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2024, approximately 310,720 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.
To bring awareness among people, the American Cancer Society has launched a breast cancer awareness program called “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”. Also, the aim of the program was to celebrate courage and hope. It is all about bringing communities together to help end breast cancer.
In this blog, we’ll focus on important details on breast cancer as well as myObamacare’s contribution to breast cancer awareness
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
For thirty years, these 3 to 5-mile walks have evolved into the country’s biggest and most influential breast cancer initiative.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a supportive community movement for brave breast cancer survivors, those living with metastatic breast cancer and, their caregivers and families different communities participate in this movement every year. myObamacare is fortunate to have joined the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in 2024. myObamacare partnered with the American Cancer Society to support the fight for a cure. Together, we all are working towards making significant strides in breast cancer awareness, prevention, and care.
Ways to decrease risk of Breast Cancer
The risk of breast cancer can be reduced with certain lifestyle changes. Here are the prevention tips;
Maintaining a Healthy Diet: Women are advised to maintain a healthy diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. Things to avoid in the diet include refined carbohydrates, fatty foods, and sugary drinks.
Being Physically Active: Women must keep a goal of about 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week. Staying physically active can lower the risk of developing cancer.
Limiting Alcohol Consumption: Studies show, consumption of alcohol highly increases the risk of breast cancer. So, it is better to cut it off or find a way to indulge in it once in a blue moon.
Breastfeeding: Long-term breastfeeding lowers the risk of breast cancer in women.
Avoiding Smoking: If a woman is addicted to smoking or has a history of long-term smoking, it becomes a contributing factor in increasing the chance of breast cancer. So, limiting smoking with precautions is necessary.
Staying Hydrated: When you drink an adequate amount of water, it aids in controlling the appetite and eliminating toxins from the body.
Annual Mammograms: Having good habits such as getting your annual mammograms and learning how to do your own breast exam can decrease the risk of having breast cancer and even the dangers of it when caught early. myObamacare provides coverage that offers FREE Mammograms to all individuals enrolled in health coverage. So do not make not having health coverage be an excuse of not knowing your health status. Mammograms are X-rays to detect breast cancer. Women must undergo mammograms even without symptoms for early detection, which increases the survival rate. If there are slight changes in breast tissues, it will be detected in the report.
Collaboration of myObamacare with the American Cancer Society
To support the awareness of breast cancer, myObamacare teamed up with the American Cancer Society for their annual walk last year. Our goal was to make strides toward a cure. Using this opportunity to bring awareness to this health issue that continues to affect thousands of individuals and naturally promote being proactive with our health. The myObamacare team joined the movement in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Walk of Fame Park and in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Symphony Park on Saturday, October 19th, last year. Our employees engaged with communities and different individuals, sharing positive energy with everyone. It was a great opportunity to connect and take part in the event together to boost awareness. We were able to bring the myObamacare family together for a great time of laughter, conversation, and dancing. myObamacare often participates in events that allow us to connect with the community and make memories.
